What We Believe

Bethel United Reformed Church, as a member of the United Reformed Churches in North America, declares complete subjection and obedience to the Word of God delivered to us in the inspired, complete, infallible, and inerrant book of Holy Scripture.

And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel (which means: house of God). ~ Genesis 35:15

And He Himself {Jesus Christ} gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-Christ-from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. ~ Ephesians 4:11-16

  • Bethel

The house of God is the place where God speaks to His people. We, as God’s people go up to His house to worship and commune with Him in covenantal dialogue, based on Holy Scripture. God speaks through the ordained Ministers, and shepherds through the ordained Elders.

  • United

Unity is considered by God as “good and pleasant” (Psalm 133) and we seek to express that unity: as a congregation in Woodstock, ON, as part of the federation of the United Reformed Churches in North America, and by confessing with the Church of all ages the Creeds of the Church: Apostle’ Creed, Nicene Creed and Athanasian Creed.

  • Reformed

To be ‘reformed’ is always to be growing up by shaping our knowledge of Christ (doctrine) to what is found in the Word of God. The Bible is the source of all truth, and we must speak that truth rather than carried about by our own ideas. Our church holds to the doctrines which are a faithful summary of Holy Scriptures and found in the Three Forms of Unity: Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession of Faith, and Canons of Dort.

  • Church

Christ is gathering and protecting for Himself a people, His Bride, the Church. This body of believers, under the Headship of Christ, grows up together through love, as each member does their service for Christ’s kingdom.
